Oliveros King Havano Oscuro Squire

Shape – Corona (Not sure why Oliveros marketing material calls this a corona with a 48 RG)
Size – 5 x 48
Wrapper – Oscuro
Filler – Nicaragua
Binder – Nicaragua
Prelight
Decent looking roll with a fairly large vein running down the back. There is double banding and the primary band is humongous. Very light earthy aroma. Firm feel to the cigar but it is rather light in weight. Also I’m not sure why they call this a corona with a 48 right gauge. I would be more inclined to call it a robusto or corona gorda.
First third
Rather harsh smoke initially. The smoke is quite dry and is giving large amount of a perfume flavor. Very peppery nose exhale. Slightly bitter aftertaste. The draw is slightly tight but the stick is burning well. Very dark, almost charcoal colored ash. No pronounced flavors are coming through although the bitterness has subsided. Just seems to be presenting a muddled tobacco flavor.
Second third
I’m finally getting a nice clean tobacco flavor with hints of sweetness. The smoke also turns from dry to having a small amount of smoothness. Medium in strength. Coffee bean aftertaste and still a very peppery nose exhale. The band was so large that I had to remove it at this point. I’ll keep it around in case I need to wrap a birthday gift or something. The third finishes with a prominent burnt wood flavor.
Last third
Continues with strong but confused flavors or wood, tobacco, and floral notes. Increasing tobacco flavored aftertaste with hints of the bitterness which were present in the first third of this smoke. Finishes with a not particularly pleasant bitter tobacco flavor.
Conclusion
This was not a particularly tasty smoke. I’m left with memories of the bitterness in the beginning and end of this cigar, although the second third was pretty decent.
